Strength Enhancement of Superduplex Stainless Steel Using Thermomechanical Processing

The impact of microstructure evolution on mechanical properties in superduplex stainless steel UNS S32750 (EN 1.4410) was investigated. To this end, different thermomechanical treatments were carried out order to obtain clearly distinct duplex microstructures. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, together with texture measurements, used characterize the morphology preferred orientations ferrite austenite all Additionally, assessed by tensile tests digital image correlation. Phase not found significantly affect neither phase volume fractions within 13% 50/50 ratio. Austenite same combined Goss/Brass regardless processing, while mainly described α-fiber orientations. Ferrite average spacing have a notable effect properties. One original microstructures obtained here shows strength improvement 120 MPa over industrial material.
